Velocity Girl...

Man, October has been a busy month for me; no time, no money, no means to go bargain hunting. But things are settling down again thankfully. I know a lot of people think that Velocity Girl were a one trick pony. That Sub Pop signed a lemon of an act after their album "Copacetic", but I happen to like their two albums afterwards. The last album of theirs, "Gilded Stars And Zealous Hearts" is a huge departure from where they started on Sub Pop, but still great listen. Lots of "Alt Country" influences on this one, Sarah Shannons voice is suited towards pretty much any genre. I always avoided this album on the advice of friends and acquaintances, but finally decided to spend the lousy $3 dollars at Easy Street for it and give it a try. I'm not sure what I was afraid of hearing, it's a good listen, not a great one, but there's a couple of really memorable tracks on here, especially "Same Old City", "The Only Ones", and "Finest Hour". Shortly after this album, Velocity Girl just kind of lost steam and broke up. Sarah Shannon lives in Seattle, guitarist Archie Moore plays in various bands and produces albums in the mid Atlantic area, I don't really know what happened to the rest. I missed my chances to see Velocity Girl, they never really played up in Seattle too often, but I wasn't actively looking to see them either, which is a shame. My loss....

14 songs makes the count at 17607....

  1. I like this album a lot. And don't get me wrong, I like Copacetic too. But Simpatico! is by far my favorite release.
