As a young man was liking Tortoise. I mean, this stuff sounded like something my PARENTS would have liked! I even went to go see them one year and didn't tell anyone where I was going. Obviously, that's changed. Now I don't care if anyone knows I like Tortoise, ABBA, or whatever. This is Tortoises third album, and my personal favorite of theirs. Many folk will tell you that you should get "Millions Now Will Never Die" or even "Standards". But screw that. "TNT" is the one. These guys are real players, taking a gamut of influences (dub, krautrock, jazz, ambient, etc) and making it work. The opening track "TNT" sounds nothing like their previous album (Millions Now Living) though, or at least not much like it; more jazz influences due to the addition of their new (at the time) guitarist, Jeff Parker to the band changed their sound for the better. I don't know what happened to my copy of this album, another fallen soldier in the casualties of my life. Good thing copies are cheap and plentiful. I picked mine up from Amazon for less than $4 with shipping. I haven't really listened to any new Tortoise material after "Standards", but maybe I should....12 songs makes the count at 17687....
