One of my favorite soundtracks to one of my very favorite movies. John Ottman scored this masterpiece. Nothing feels wasted on here; all the tracks are terse, curt and to the point. I've always loved this soundtrack, never really felt the need to pursue buying until recently. I found multiple cheap copies on Amazon for less than a dollar. Mine was .76 cents or something. The orchestration really adds to the atmosphere of the movie. I hate it when people say corny things like "The city is another character in the movie" or "The music is another character in the movie", usually in most cases, it's just not true. But imagining this film without John Ottmans contribution. You feel empathetic towards Fensters' demise, sympathy for Verbal Kint, you share the fear and dread that all of them feel (except Keaton) when Kobayashi tells them he "works for Keyser Sose". I really felt like when this movie came out, it was going to change things. That people were going to make films better again. In a sense, it did happen. But unfortunately, we're back to awful reinterpretations of our childhood toys, games, comics, etc through film. The soundtracks to these movies fare about as well as the material they're supposed to be inspired from. Not so with "The Usual Suspects". One of the very few soundtracks in my Itunes, it's a good listen on a rainy night with a good scary book....24 songs makes the count at 17531...
