Probably my favorite Devo album, or maybe "Freedom Of Choice". I realized I have absolutely none of their albums in my Itunes. Weird. This one, their first is the first Devo album, and had they not moved past this album, which I do admit, sounds a little contrived and jokey, this would have been consigned to the dustbin of history as a tiny novelty album. At least on paper. But then you listen to the opener, "Uncontrollable Urge" which is a rocking piece of post punk. Very timeless, Econochrist even covered to perfection. I love their cover of the Rolling Stones "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" as well. Completely turning it around in some ways, staying kind of faithful to it in another. Devo seemed to be passed by in the terms of post punk recognition sometimes maybe because of their geographical locale (Ohio), or the fact that they weren't trying to hide their aspirations of getting bigger than most bands of the genre. Regardless, Devo's first LP is an often overlooked album that you should inquire about. I found mine (along with several multiple copies) at Everyday Music for less than $4 bucks. You should too.11 songs makes the count at 17583....
