The Verve's "A Storm In Heaven" is their first album, and as far away from "A Northern Soul" as you could get. This one is a heavy psychedelic vibe, rock steady drumming that doesn't change too much, not that it needs to. There's no real need for any kind of bashing on this album. I don't love this one as much as I do "A Northern Soul", on that one, they are on fire with purpose and drive, but "A Storm In Heaven" glides and drifts along with effortless grace, it's so weird that they took such a left turn after this album. I love the direction they went after this, but I would have been interested to see where the could have gone with this sound, it's really close to the Krautrock/Kosmische sound form the 70's, albeit a bit more radio friendly, but damn, it's close! I found this at Silver Platters used for $4. One of the discographies that I couldn't lay claim to in the divorce. I wonder why I sat on this so long? Listening to "Blue" and "Butterfly" make me nostalgic for when this came out. A great debut album, the first of 3 to come from a "should have been huge" band (Now 4 with their latest).

10 songs make the count at 17395...
