Tamaryn....

A friend of a friend of mine asked me "your kind of stuck on the 90's, aren't you"? I didn't want that to be the case, I wanted to be forward thinking, ahead of the curve, but alas, it's true. My interests lie in decades previous. I decided to do something about it and look for some new music. Enter Tamaryn, a two piece band from San Francisco. Their debut album "The Waves" was just released last year, that's new, right? Well, yes and no. Yes in the fact that it was released last year, but musically? Maybe not. Firmly rooted in early shoegaze sounds, this could have been around when Ride, MBV, and Slowdive were playing shows and it would have fit right in. It really reminds me of Slowdive especially. Like the "Souvlaki" LP. My favorite period of Slowdive for sure. I love it. Mountains of reverb, breathy, husky vocals courtesy of singer, Tamaryn. Her voice really seals the deal for me. Not that the music is lacking at all, apparently, the guitarist/producer/co songwriter Rex John Shelverton has a Hardcore past! Ol' Rex used to play in Bay Area band Portraits Of Past! Whaddya know? Crazy. He come a long way since then. It's nice to see people grow a bit. I'm pretty into this. Even if it sounds like it could have been made two decades ago, it's REALLY good. I dunno, does it count that it's new and undiscovered to me? I didn't even mind paying the $8.99 price tag at Silver Platters for it. That's how good it is....

9 songs makes the count at 17348...
