TAD...

Tad albums always bummed me out. They didn't convey one ounce of the power and heaviness of their live show. I saw them maybe 4 or 5 times when they were around, they hardly ever played all ages shows it seemed like. My memory is fuzzy on that, so don't hold it against me. Tad was a band I could really get into. 4 uncool looking dudes who played a weird punk/metal hybrid that didn't seem to take themselves too seriously. "8 Way Santa", their second album, is probably their most well known album, famous for it's controversial album cover ( a couple posing for a photo, the gentleman has his hand over the womans' breast), but also for their "Jack Pepsi" single as well. Tad always seemed dead set on sabotaging their own success (at least early on) in examples like that, but man, seeing them play, it just didn't matter. Everything about their sound was so forceful, loud, aggressive, pummeling. But this album? I don't know, none of that magic is on this. It sounds so mushy, so bland. But listening to this immediately takes me back. I found this at a weird vintage store called Lot 49, everything there was $5, no reason not to get this out of print, crazy hard to find album....

13 songs makes the count at 17361...

  1. Tad was a great live band. I saw them once. And for the life of me I can't remember who with.

I keep looking for cheap Tad albums.

  2. You can usually always find their later albums, like "Inhaler", but man, the Sub Pop stuff is so hardt cme by! The last time I saw them play was with a secret Nirvana show, it was an unannounced benefit for Mia Zapata's recent murder. It was Nirvana's last US show I think. A grim show to be sure.
