I keep chipping away at that Stereolab discography. Keep finding these albums cheap. This one, their 8th follows their supposed "flop" album "Cobra And Phases", which I love. "Sound Dust" is Stereolab settling into their sound, finding that perfect balance that you knew that they were going to eventually achieve. It's hard to believe this album is ten years old. It seems like it's only a couple years old to me. To be honest, I only listened to this once or twice when it came out, I had sort of "moved on" from Stereolab at that point. It's one of those records you buy and then filed away forever. I lost mine at some point in my life, but copies are plentiful EVERYWHERE. This might be the most commonly seen Stereolab album I run across in the used bins, in my case, at Everyday Music. For $3. This was also the last album with Mary Hansen, an absence keenly felt afterwards. But I feel like they held it together really well after her untimely demise. But it is it sad to think that this was one of the last times you'd hear Mary's voice gliding underneath Laetitia's hypnotic, smooth pipes. Listening to this one again, it's a really strong album, all the elements that combine to make Stereolab are here in full force, and make for (to me now) a really strong, time tested album. Best tracks are "The Black Arts", "Gus The Myna Bird" and "Nothing To Do With Me". Not a hard album to track down, every Stereolab fan should own this one....
