Former Swirlies member, Seana Carmody apparently put out a solo record! This is fantastic news, the album is a few years old (2002), but I hope there may be more in the future. It's like that awful 00's decade never happened, "Struts And Shocks" sounds like a Swirlies album that never got released, just with a lot more Seana singing, which was always one of the Swirlies selling points for me. The opening song song, "Rocket Out Of Time" seems pretty fitting; listening to this made my ears smile at the memories of a time when lots of music sounded like this. Everything on here sounds effortless and breezy and great. Less experimental than the Swirlies, parts of it remind me of former Drop Nineteens member Paula Kelly's solo project, Hot Rod or even the first Juliana Hatfield album "Hey Babe". Totally a good thing. I play this constantly lately. I was Googling Seana Carmody's name to see if she had done anything after her band Syrup USA had broken up and to my surprise, this solo album popped up, great joy and cause for celebration! I found my copy on Amazon for dirt cheap, .96 cents. You could do a lot worse than to pick up all of Ms. Carmody's efforts; the Swirlies, Syrup USA, and her solo album. All of them can be had for dirt cheap.
